Nestled in the vibrant heart of San Antonio’s west side, La Playa Restaurant offers an authentic seafood experience that transports diners straight to the coastal towns of Mexico. This beloved seafood restaurant delights guests with its fresh, flavorful dishes crafted with a distinct Mexican (Mariscos) flair. From the moment you step inside, the colorful wall murals and the warm sounds of Spanish conversation set the scene—inviting you to indulge in an escape to a seaside paradise, right in Texas.
La Playa’s menu is a treasure trove for seafood lovers and adventurers alike. Signature dishes like the Shrimp Cocktail de Camarones burst with freshness, showcasing plump, never-frozen shrimp bathed in zesty, tangy sauces that tickle your taste buds. The Fish and Shrimp Plate offers a hearty and satisfying combination, while the Marisco Soup and the renowned King Soup Caldo de Mariscos con Cangrejo Rey provide soul-warming broths rich with the ocean’s bounty.
For those craving a lighter but equally vibrant choice, the Ceviche and Oysters on the Shell serve as perfect starters, each bite delivering an invigorating burst of citrus and spice. The menu also celebrates Salvadorian influences, featuring delights like Pupusas de Camaron and the uniquely satisfying Filete Flameado with salad and fries. Fans of comfort food should not miss the Quesadilla Plate or the Enchilada Plate, both generously flavored and deeply satisfying.
Diners have particularly raved about the quality and authenticity of La Playa’s offerings. Mercedes Cristo’s fondness for the complimentary salsa paired with crispy chips exemplifies the attention to detail, while Coach Gomez praises the perfectly grilled red snapper, shrimp, and tilapia—a testament to the kitchen’s skill. The homemade ice cream adds a delightful finish to meals, perfect for sharing with family and friends as highlighted by customer Marie Guidry.
The ambience at La Playa is relaxed, warm, and inviting—a place where you can enjoy great seafood without breaking the bank. The friendly and attentive service enhances the experience, making every visit feel personal and authentic. As Eloy Castaneda Jr notes, the shrimp cocktail with fresh shrimp and the uniquely battered fries show the kitchen’s creativity, while the refreshing sweet tea offers a perfect balance to the robust flavors on the plate.
If you’re longing for the vibrant tastes of a Mexican coastal seafood dive, complete with genuine hospitality and a festive atmosphere, La Playa Restaurant is an essential stop on your San Antonio culinary journey. This place is really good. I really loved the salsa with the chips. I got the shrimp quesadilla and a stuffed crab. My boyfriend got the bean and cheese tacos and he said it was good and perfectly cheesy. I would definitely recommend coming here and the sweet tea was perfect.
Wow. Great Salvadorian restaurant the filet of Red snapper, shrimp and tilapia grill ,they are sooo good definitely we will comeback And for snack 3 popusas revueltas de pork skin and cheese, loroco and cheese
Great Homemade ice cream soooo yummy and big location to bring all your friends and family!
Good seafood with a definite Mexican (Mariscos) flair. The decor, wall murals and food (along with wait staff talking in Spanish) reminded me of eating in a seaside town in Mexico. They have solid fare. Good food and pretty inexpensive for seafood. Off the beaten path on San Antonio's west side, but definitely worth a try when you're missing the seafood dives of Cabo or Cancun!
Seafood and more served hot and fresh. Unlike other restaurants the shrimp cocktail is served with fresh shrimp not frozen. It was great. I also ordered the fried shrimp plate which comes with fries. It seemed like the fries were also battered a little. It was different but in a good way. Sweet tea was also good. Service was great. We will be back.
